College Algebra
University of Arkansas
Course Overview
College Algebra develops foundational algebraic skills through equations and inequalities, functions and graphs, systems of equations, and related mathematical structures.
Teaching Focus
In teaching College Algebra, I emphasize understanding relationships between algebraic expressions, equations, functions, and graphs rather than treating them as isolated procedures. The goal is for students to understand both how to carry out a method and how to recognize when it applies.
- solving and interpreting equations and inequalities;
- working with functions and their representations;
- connecting algebraic and graphical reasoning;
- solving systems of equations;
- developing algebraic reasoning needed for later quantitative coursework.
